Proverbs 20:29
The glory of young men is their strength, but gray hair is the splendor of the old.
Proverbs 16:31
Gray hair is a crown of glory
My friend Susan Hersh and I.
Susan is one of the top commercial actor models in the world known for her distinctive silver locks. She is the face and hair of Pantene, Sephora, and other well known brands.
GRAY SILVER WHITE and SALT & PEPPER Hair
I have a great reputation for specializing in a few things. Straight razor hot towel shaves, eyebrow shaping and painless hair removal and exfoliation in women, and also being the Sultan of Silver. Yep, I specialize in the cutting, styling, and care of gray, silver, white, and salt & pepper hair.
From a commercial I did this winter

When men start going gray, the grays start to pop out of the rest of the hair because they are a completely different texture than your normal colored hair. They most likely are a little coarser, behave differently with conditioning and especially with grooming. Each man’s graying pattern is different but usually similar to the graying pattern of a parent or grandparent when they went gray.

There are many varieties or shades of gray. Most fall into one of four categories: Gray, Silver, White, and Salt & Pepper.
Once you start transitioning, it keeps going until the day you die, even if you go all gray it still changes various shades as you age.
The most popular commercial character of all time is gray ;)
I started going gray in my late twenties around the temples and sideburn area. By thirty-five my sideburns were completely white. Some consider this to be a nice look. I had “Paulie Walnuts hair” by the time I was forty. All white on the sides and the rest was dark. In my forties, the gray started coming in salt and pepper throughout the rest of my head. Now in my early 50’s, it is all white gray on sides and increasingly graying everywhere else. Now the hair is softer and doesn’t have the coarseness it did years ago. When properly conditioned, it is soft as silk. The same with the hair on my face. My beard is completely white like Dr. Andrew Weil and very soft.
With BEN FM radio personality Marilyn Russel at the "Mile of Meet" where I was one of Philadelphia's most eligible bachelors....a gray one that is.
Being a hair professional and a more natural-based product fan, I am a fan of silver hair in men and women. I think silver haired women are sexy and confident looking. I am not one that thinks it makes one look older or detracts from ones beauty or handsomeness.
A commercial Poconos tourism ad I did
Silver, gray, white, and salt and pepper hair have different needs than dark hair. The biggest problem with this hair is that is needs to be texturized more during the cutting process in order to avoid the “silver helmet head” look. This natural silver hair needs grooves and staggered layers to give it depth and dimension. This kind of hair especially looks great when finger-styled as opposed to a brush or comb. Out of the shower, a coarse brush is best so as to not pull any hair out. I like the idea of combing the hair all back then using fingers to bring some down or sweep it to the side. If a hard visible part is desired then obviously a comb will do the trick. I tend to be a towel dry or air dry fan. If you’re going to use a blow dryer, then warm or cool air is best. Bottom line: heat damages hair.

Gray, even messed up gray hair, has done well for me in my commercial acting career!

As far as product goes, I like to use a cleansing as opposed to foaming shampoo. Wen products and Hair One products are good. I also like to use a violet shampoo once a week to avoid brassiness and yellowing of the silver. Hair absorbs whatever you put on it. If there is even a hint of color to a product, the hair will absorb it. As far as grooming agents, I like to use anything thicker, pastier, and waxier and only a little bit. A half of a pinky nail is plenty for most heads. One jar of paste, wax, or moulding clay can last a whole year.
A commercial I did as a bartender
Silver is a great color. It looks great with your skin, reflects light, shows character, and wisdom. If you have it, rock it.
Come see me, your silver, gray, and white authority in Philadelphia.

Product Review
For my silver gray friends, I recommend a tinted shampoo once a week. There are many brands. I prefer the bluer ones over the violet ones. Shampoo with it once or twice a week and it makes your gray appear more silvery, which is very attractive. For white hair, it replaces the yellowish tint with a brighter whiter hue. I have used everything from American Crew, the generic from Sally Beauty Supply, and super high end shampoos HOWEVER my new favorite is Jhirmack Silver Plus. It'll last you a long time because it is so concentrated. A little goes a long way. You'll see a difference from the first time you use it! They have a great line of Silver/Gray hair care products that I really love and will review for you in my next newsletter. For men with silver, gray, or white beards, use it on your beard, mustache, goatee the way I do. You will love it. Look at all my pics in this blog and see for yourself!
Proverbs 20:29 says The glory of young men is their strength, but gray hair is the splendor of the old. And Proverbs 16:31 “Gray hair is a crown of glory”.
Enjoy that beautiful crown guys!
Cheers!

ATTENTION SALON OWNERS

STEAL THIS IDEA!
Men's services are super flippin' HOT, low cost for the business owner, men are easier to please, you can serve two an hour, they are easy to market to, easier to keep, & tip well. You can turn a $25 haircut into a $40-$90 ticket w/product sales, a hot towel straight razor shave, facial, shoulders-up massage. Believe me, I did it. Do every style cut, modern, traditional, Mad Men cuts, Boardwalk Empire Cuts, all-scissors or all-clipper. Get to know EVERY hotel concierge & doorman within ten blocks, groom them for FREE weekly, and you could have every chair filled in less than a month, be open 18 hrs a day/7 days/wk. Million dollar biz the first year you try this business model. Those chairs should only be empty when your cleaning staff are cleaning them. They are apartments that need "occupancy". The goal of every "landlord" is 100% occupancy. Want to know more about that and how I can make that a reality?
On April 15 this past year, the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. I dressed as August Weikman, the only hairdresser that survived the Titanic in 1912. He worked for tips and one shilling a week. I told his story to every customer that sat in my chair that day. I bet you never got your haircut by a 151 year old man before.
You can read about him here:
Pretty interesting eh?

IMPORTANT Message to my valued client friends
I am no longer cutting hair at the North Wales location.
However, I will still cut your hair by private appointment with the same precision and professionalism you've come to expect with me. More than ever it is important to be clean, sharp, and handsome in the marketplace. You need to have that "edge" and in your appearance and grooming.
That edge gives you an advantage.
You and I have probably talked about that while you were in my chair. After one cut with me, you knew that coming to me was about so much more than just the haircut. We talk grooming, work, career, marketing, promotion, networking, and even sometimes beer, whiskey, women, and politics, lol!

For that private appt at your location, call me.
Program me into your cell phone: 267-261-3240

Q: How much is a private appointment with you?
A: You decide. People's time and talent is worth something. Make it worth my time ;)

Q: Will you be cutting hair at a shop/salon again soon?
A: I have my eyes open and am looking. I may even be back at North Wales for back to back appt only cutting. I am trying to maximize my time as I value yours.

Q: Will you cut my family's hair?
A: Probably not a bad idea. Line'em up. I'll make a house call and cut everyone's hair once a month if you'd like. Women too!

Keep checking in here and don't hesitate to reach out to me via phone or my email: gb@georgebruno.com

This where I am cutting now. Third tree on the left. (KIDDING!)

One client texted me and panicked because he never thought he would find me and never get the perfect cut like he got with me.

What is this "consult" or "Pre-Service Interview" you always talk about?

Fellow Stylist/Barbers/MUA/Future Clients ...THIS IS MY CONSULT: When was the last time you had your hair cut? How often do you usually wait in-between cuts? What is your grooming method? Comb, finger styling, towel dry, blow dry, etc. What product do you use in your hair and why? Tell me about your shampoo and conditioner. Do you have any health issues I need to know about? Can you remember your ...favorite haircut and why it was your favorite? What line of work are you in? Are you open to new styles and suggestions? As we are talking, you are facing the mirror, I am combing/brushing your hair, assessing texture, density, hairline, and growth patterns, hair and scalp health, facial shape, skull "topography", neck length, identifying calics and swirls, seeing how it lays, etc then I discuss a plan of action and what I think I want to do. I check with you several times during the cut to see if we are on track, and then I style it at the end and show you how to get the same EXACT results and look at home. Since many of my clients are people who make a living with their image, an in-depth consult is neccessary, but I do that very same consult with the construction worker, chef, office worker, and everyday citizen. The next time you see your haircutter, make note of how much interest they take in YOU, the questions they ask, and how much they LISTEN. The consult is always a DIALOGUE, not a monologue. Happy consulting everybody!
Hey dude, smell like a man will ya!
When a man sits in my chair, if he doesnt say anything ahead of time, I will usually apply some type of aftershave after my styling. I finish your haircut, groom/style your hair with either a spray bottle of water, a paste appropriate to your hair, liquid gel, jelly, pomade, spray, wax, or styling product. THEN I will put a little aftershave on a grooming towel and then apply to wherever I touched with a blade. It sanitizes, disinfects, kills any germs, and acts as an astringent (shrinks pores/tightens skin). You get your choice or I just choose one I think you'd like.
Here are the fragrances I use:
  1. Traditional Bay Rum
  2. My own homemade recipe of Bay Rum
  3. Lime Sec
  4. Clubman Traditional
  5. GIO
  6. Lavender
  7. Rosemary
  8. Musk
  9. Essential Oil
Now you won't gag from the smell. It's just enough for you to sense and know you were in my chair. If you're going out from my chair, I'm happy to get you looking AND smelling good. And of course, no trip to my chair is complete without a quick dusting of the classic Clubman powder. The very powder that your grandfather had dusted on his neck when he was young!
Blessed by the company of my friend, Commercial Model Stacey Redfield at the Philly Chit Chat 5th Anniversary event in Philadelphia. Never underestimate the power of a friend by your side when you go out. Better yet ...BE that friend and you will be that blessing!
This sign was inspired by a client who had a huge scar on his head from brain cancer surgery. For years he had long hair to cover the scar. One day he came in and said "Give me a short haircut. I want to stop hiding this scar. Who am I kidding? This is who I am. I want to embrace what makes me different".
NEWS:
I am becoming a makeup artist and skincare specialist within the next year to add to my skill set. Hair, Skin, and Makeup all go hand in hand. I'll keep you filled in. Shoot me an email if I can help you in any way gb@georgebruno.com
The Wife/Girlfriend Department
In the past year, I have written about the following things on a monthly basis:
  • Giving her a massage
  • How to give her a pedicure
  • How to give a sensual head massage
  • How to cook for her
  • Mastering the Art of Kissing
  • Listening to your woman
  • How to be a gentleman
  • Walk and Talk together
This one below is what started me out about a year ago. Men have told me that they have never been told what to do by another guy and thank me for it!
Here’s a handful of ideas that may inject some life into that relationship. Granted, you may be looked at strangely or be suspected of something, lol. It doesn't matter if you're only dating ...or married 25 years. Try any one of these or a combination of these over a period of a month. These are in no particular order.
1.) Don’t take her out for dinner. Make her dinner at home and you do all the clean up.
2.) Give her a pedicure. Study up boys, and do it right. Then paint her nails. She'll enjoy it after she picks herself off the floor in disbelief!
3.) You initiate the daily walk, be it a mile or a few blocks.
4.) Take off from work and go to a movie matinee together, popcorn and all.
5.) Write a love letter and send it in the mail, like men used to do, just like her father did to her mother when he was overseas during the war. Read Ronald Reagan’s book called I Love You, Ronnie. It’s his love letters to his wife Nancy. It'll blow you away ...and her as well.
6.) Hide little "appreciation notes" in places she'll find intermittently throughout her day.
7.) Ask her what radio station she wants to listen to in the car.
8.) Get a massage together.
9.) Read aloud to her the fiction she likes.
10.) Write a song or poem for her ...and if you're musical, play it for her.
11.) Make an exhaustive list on paper of everything you love about her and stick it on the fridge.
12.) Play with her hair and stroke it with your fingers at night till she falls asleep.
13.) In your "lovin' time, love her ...with her ...and only her in mind. Don't do a single thing with your pleasure in mind. Believe me, she'll notice ...and that alone will be satisfying to you.
14.) Have a feather in your nightstand. This is for a "less-is-more" massage. Not every massage has to rattle her bones. Kind of a "anti-Shiatsu, just barely massaging massage". Your eyelashes work too!
15. No more dermabrasion. Shave your face before your lovin' time
16. Never underestimate the power of good oral/dental hygiene
17. Put a glass/bottle of water on her nightstand.
18. Hold hands and give thanks before dinner.
19. Promote her career and future goals in and out of the home
20. Ask her what she wants to watch on TV and give her the remote
Go for it guys. She already thinks you're crazy, what have you got to lose?and most of all....Have Fun!

Let not your heart be troubled!
A great haircut is still a phone call away!

Talk to you soon brothers!
Cheers,
George
