I love to cut hair ...and it shows!
My passion is to make you look the best that you can possibly be.
I style the hair of fellow actors, models, and business people.
Everyday I hear "This is the best haircut I have ever had" and "Finally someone has brought Manhattan-style cutting to the Philadelphia area".
Mom has brown eyes. Dad has brown eyes. I have brown eyes.
My Dad cut hair. My Mom cut hair. For me cutting hair is almost genetic!
I played in a barber chair and fooled around with beauty & styling implements as a child. It seems that the shears and comb are natural extensions of my hands.
If anyone was "born to cut hair" it is me
And what do you do? lol

In honor of the Silver Gray blog edition, this is my gorgeous friend Madalyn Galdamez, also known for rockin' that wonderful silver hair. She is in the Classic model division of FORD models. Need a silver commercial model/actor for your company? Madalyn may be perfect for you! Message me.

Proverbs 20:29
The glory of young men is their strength, but gray hair is the splendor of the old.
Proverbs 16:31
Gray hair is a crown of glory
My friend Susan Hersh and I.
Susan is one of the top commercial actor models in the world known for her distinctive silver locks. She is the face and hair of Pantene, Sephora, and other well known brands.
GRAY SILVER WHITE and SALT & PEPPER Hair
I have a great reputation for specializing in a few things. Straight razor hot towel shaves, eyebrow shaping and painless hair removal and exfoliation in women, and also being the Sultan of Silver. Yep, I specialize in the cutting, styling, and care of gray, silver, white, and salt & pepper hair.
From a commercial I did this winter

When men start going gray, the grays start to pop out of the rest of the hair because they are a completely different texture than your normal colored hair. They most likely are a little coarser, behave differently with conditioning and especially with grooming. Each man’s graying pattern is different but usually similar to the graying pattern of a parent or grandparent when they went gray.

There are many varieties or shades of gray. Most fall into one of four categories: Gray, Silver, White, and Salt & Pepper.
Once you start transitioning, it keeps going until the day you die, even if you go all gray it still changes various shades as you age.
The most popular commercial character of all time is gray ;)
I started going gray in my late twenties around the temples and sideburn area. By thirty-five my sideburns were completely white. Some consider this to be a nice look. I had “Paulie Walnuts hair” by the time I was forty. All white on the sides and the rest was dark. In my forties, the gray started coming in salt and pepper throughout the rest of my head. Now in my early 50’s, it is all white gray on sides and increasingly graying everywhere else. Now the hair is softer and doesn’t have the coarseness it did years ago. When properly conditioned, it is soft as silk. The same with the hair on my face. My beard is completely white like Dr. Andrew Weil and very soft.
With BEN FM radio personality Marilyn Russel at the "Mile of Meet" where I was one of Philadelphia's most eligible bachelors....a gray one that is.
Being a hair professional and a more natural-based product fan, I am a fan of silver hair in men and women. I think silver haired women are sexy and confident looking. I am not one that thinks it makes one look older or detracts from ones beauty or handsomeness.
A commercial Poconos tourism ad I did
Silver, gray, white, and salt and pepper hair have different needs than dark hair. The biggest problem with this hair is that is needs to be texturized more during the cutting process in order to avoid the “silver helmet head” look. This natural silver hair needs grooves and staggered layers to give it depth and dimension. This kind of hair especially looks great when finger-styled as opposed to a brush or comb. Out of the shower, a coarse brush is best so as to not pull any hair out. I like the idea of combing the hair all back then using fingers to bring some down or sweep it to the side. If a hard visible part is desired then obviously a comb will do the trick. I tend to be a towel dry or air dry fan. If you’re going to use a blow dryer, then warm or cool air is best. Bottom line: heat damages hair.

Gray, even messed up gray hair, has done well for me in my commercial acting career!

As far as product goes, I like to use a cleansing as opposed to foaming shampoo. Wen products and Hair One products are good. I also like to use a violet shampoo once a week to avoid brassiness and yellowing of the silver. Hair absorbs whatever you put on it. If there is even a hint of color to a product, the hair will absorb it. As far as grooming agents, I like to use anything thicker, pastier, and waxier and only a little bit. A half of a pinky nail is plenty for most heads. One jar of paste, wax, or moulding clay can last a whole year.
A commercial I did as a bartender
Silver is a great color. It looks great with your skin, reflects light, shows character, and wisdom. If you have it, rock it.

Product Review
For my silver gray friends, I recommend a tinted shampoo once a week. There are many brands. I prefer the bluer ones over the violet ones. Shampoo with it once or twice a week and it makes your gray appear more silvery, which is very attractive. For white hair, it replaces the yellowish tint with a brighter whiter hue. I have used everything from American Crew, the generic from Sally Beauty Supply, and super high end shampoos HOWEVER my new favorite is Jhirmack Silver Plus. It'll last you a long time because it is so concentrated. A little goes a long way. You'll see a difference from the first time you use it! They have a great line of Silver/Gray hair care products that I really love and will review for you in my next newsletter. For men with silver, gray, or white beards, use it on your beard, mustache, goatee the way I do. You will love it. Look at all my pics in this blog and see for yourself!
Proverbs 20:29 says The glory of young men is their strength, but gray hair is the splendor of the old. And Proverbs 16:31 “Gray hair is a crown of glory”.
Enjoy that beautiful crown guys!
Cheers!

Some say "Aren't you threatened by the competition?" My answer: NEVER. I believe there is enough business out there for everyone. I am happy to recognize a great salon and its' artisans. We all are on the same team to make America beautiful and handsome, one head at a time.

I am absolutely LOVE and highly recommend Baxter of California hair products for men. There is not one weak product. I personally use some of them daily on every client and myself.

ATTENTION SALON OWNERS

STEAL THIS IDEA!
Men's services are super flippin' HOT, low cost for the business owner, men are easier to please, you can serve two an hour, they are easy to market to, easier to keep, & tip well. You can turn a $25 haircut into a $40-$90 ticket w/product sales, a hot towel straight razor shave, facial, shoulders-up massage. Believe me, I did it. Do every style cut, modern, traditional, Mad Men cuts, Boardwalk Empire Cuts, all-scissors or all-clipper. Get to know EVERY hotel concierge & doorman within ten blocks, groom them for FREE weekly, and you could have every chair filled in less than a month, be open 18 hrs a day/7 days/wk. Million dollar biz the first year you try this business model. Those chairs should only be empty when your cleaning staff are cleaning them. They are apartments that need "occupancy". The goal of every "landlord" is 100% occupancy. Want to know more about that and how I can make that a reality?
On April 15 this past year, the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. I dressed as August Weikman, the only hairdresser that survived the Titanic in 1912. He worked for tips and one shilling a week. I told his story to every customer that sat in my chair that day. I bet you never got your haircut by a 151 year old man before.
You can read about him here:
Pretty interesting eh?
